I spent the past week painting furiously and came up with these 4 new encaustic portraits — referencing Pre-Raphaelite portraiture and William Morris patterns and other old fashioned things. They will be hanging in the gallery for the next few months.

Lewis Carroll, pen name for Charles Lutwidge Dodgson was born on this day (January 27), 1832, well-known mostly as the author of Alice and Wonderland.

On this day, 2013, I tried sketching his portrait — as well as a study from one of John Tenniel’s illustrations in Alice and Wonderland (1865 edition). Graphite on paper, dimensions of each: rather small.

I have a book called Nordic Knitting; a collection of traditional Scandinavian knitting patterns. Norway (Selbu pattern) and Sweden (Dalarna sleeves), inspired these pencil sketches. More underway ~
